BUILDING TODAY, BETTER TOMORROW.

By Adamu Aminu.

Nigeria’s housing deficit has, for decades, remained one of the most persistent challenges confronting successive administrations. With a growing population, rapid urbanization, and rising cost of building materials, the gap between housing need and housing supply continues to widen.

It is against this backdrop that the stewardship of the Honourable Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, deserves sober and honest reflection.

Since assuming office, the Minister of State, working alongside the Honourable Minister, has approached the housing challenge not as a matter of grand pronouncements, but as a matter of disciplined execution. His work is firmly anchored in the "Renewed Hope Agenda" of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, which places affordable housing, job creation, and inclusive growth at the center of national policy.

In his capacity as Minister of State, Hon. Ata has helped renew the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s focus on affordable housing schemes designed to reach ordinary Nigerians, not only the privileged few.

This distinction matters. Housing policy that does not reach the civil servant, the artisan, the trader, and the young family starting out has, in truth, failed in its most basic purpose.

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to welfare and economic opportunity, the Ministry is prioritizing housing typologies and financing models that are accessible, scalable, and responsive to local realities across the six geopolitical zones.

Minister Ata’s approach has been marked by a consistent insistence on partnership: between government and private developers, between federal agencies and state authorities, and between policy and the people it is meant to serve.

This collaborative outlook reflects a clear understanding that urban development is not the work of one office alone, but a shared national responsibility.

By leveraging Public-Private Partnerships and engaging state governments, the Ministry is working to unlock land, expand infrastructure, and de-risk investments in line with the Renewed Hope objective of mobilizing private capital for public good.

Equally significant has been his attention to urban planning as a discipline, not an afterthought.

Nigeria’s cities are growing rapidly and, in many cases, without order. They require deliberate management. The Ministry’s renewed emphasis on planned settlements, regularized land administration, slum upgrading, and sustainable urban growth reflects a vision that looks beyond the next budget cycle to the Nigeria of the next generation.

These efforts directly support the Renewed Hope Agenda’s goal of building livable, resilient, and economically productive cities where citizens have access to decent shelter, basic services, and dignified livelihoods.

Housing is also an engine of jobs and enterprise. From masons and carpenters to suppliers of cement, steel, and fittings, every housing unit delivered creates a chain of economic activity.

In this sense, the Ministry’s work advances another core pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda: expanding opportunities for Nigerians through productive sectors that create employment at scale.

Nor does this suggest that the housing challenge has been solved. It has not, and no single tenure could achieve that.

The scale of the problem demands patience, consistency, and institutional memory. What can be said, fairly, is that the direction is sound, the intent is sincere, and the groundwork is substantial.

“Building Today, Better Tomorrow” is more than a slogan for this Ministry. It is an accurate description of an approach that favours steady progress over spectacle.

It is the kind of quiet, institutional work on which lasting national development is ultimately built, and which the Renewed Hope Agenda seeks to institutionalize across every sector of government.

In light of current developments, the Honourable Yusuf Abdullahi Ata remains fully committed to delivering his mandate with diligence.

His focus is on results that will endure, contributions that will serve as a lasting legacy, and policies that will outlive his tenure in service to the nation.

Obi Slams Govt Over Spending as Housing Deficit Worsens

Peter Obi has called out the federal government over what he describes as a "stunning fiscal disparity"—luxury spending while over 24 million Nigerians remain homeless.

The former LP candidate questioned why billions are allocated to high-end projects while basic shelter, healthcare, and education remain underfunded. He demands a complete overhaul of national budgeting priorities.

BREAKING NEWS:

His Excellency Goodluck Jonathan Appointed U.N. Global Crisis Envoy, Becomes First African Former Head of State to Hold the Role

In a historic move, former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been appointed as the United Nations Global Crisis Envoy, a prestigious role jointly endorsed by global powers the United States, United Kingdom, France, China, Russia, and the United Nations itself.

This high-level diplomatic appointment positions Jonathan as a central figure in international crisis resolution, mirroring the role once held by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who served as the Middle East Envoy representing the U.N., E.U., U.S., and Russia.

Dr. Jonathan now becomes the first African former Head of State to occupy this globally strategic position, marking a significant milestone in Africa's representation on the world stage.

Jonathan’s rise is a story of consistency, humility, and dedication to public service. From his early career as a lecturer, to becoming Commissioner, then Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, Acting President, and eventually President of Nigeria, he now adds a new chapter to his legacy transitioning from national leadership to global statesmanship.

His appointment is seen by analysts as a recognition of his peaceful disposition, democratic credentials, and deep understanding of conflict resolution values desperately needed in today’s increasingly volatile global environment.

Congratulations To You Our Father, Leader For Making Us Proud
