The Gokyo Valley Trek climbs to Renjo La at 5,360 meters for a 360-degree look at Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, then drops into the Gokyo lakes, a chain of sacred glacial lakes the Sherpas call "holy water." Add a walk along the Ngozumpa Glacier, Nepal's longest, and a stop in Thame, birthplace of some of the most famous Sherpa mountaineers.

It's quieter than the Everest Base Camp trail and just as close to the big peaks.
