Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a high-strength alloy steel designed to form a stable, rust-like surface when exposed to the elements. Unlike ordinary steel, which continues to corrode, Corten develops a protective oxide layer (patina) that seals the surface and dramatically slows further corrosion.
